Barabbas! We all know the name, and yet he was totally passive in the account of Christ's final hours before his death. But Jesus-Barabbas best represents us and best presents the Good News of redemption, for only the death of an innocent man in our place could set us free. Pilate gave the people a choice, but ultimately it wasn't the Jew's choice, or Pilate's decision. It was God the Father who chose the guilty over his own Son that Friday morning that led to greatest good for us.
