A Lesser Lenten Light – One Poor Widow

Preacher:
Passage: Mark 12:38-44

We are familiar with many of the major figures woven into the account of Christ's final week before his crucifixion:  from Judas the betrayer and Caiaphas the High Priest, to Peter the boaster and denier, to Pilate and Herod. But there are others who are less known, and during the weeks leading up to the remembrance of Christ's death and resurrection, we will be considering some of those "lesser Lenten lights" that we find in God's Word.

We begin with one poor widow in the temple on Tuesday of that final week. While often pointed to as an example of giving - others contributed out of their abundance, but she gave all she had, her final "two mites" - we also see in her the light of Christ who was watching her. She gave her all, and soon, so would he. Do we dare to love God, to trust him, and to walk in the footsteps of Christ?
