Our Father

Preacher:
Passage: Matthew 6:9

Why did Jesus teach his disciples to address God as "our Father?" Was it to teach them (and us) that we can approach God as members of his family, children calling upon their heavenly Father? Yes, but much more. "Our Father" invokes the history of redemption and the mission of Christ who came to lead out of bondage to sin and death. To address God as "our Father" is a reminder that Christians are an exodus people, on our way to eternal life in the new heavens and earth.
